Unit 12 · Magnetism and Electromagnetism

Chapter 12.3

Electromagnetic Induction and Faraday's Law

Hold a magnet still inside a coil and nothing happens; move it and a current appears from nowhere. It is not the field that makes current, but the change.

By the end

  1. 01Compute magnetic flux through a loop, including its sign from the chosen area vector
  2. 02Find the size of an induced emf from the rate of flux change
  3. 03Find the direction of the induced current with Lenz's law and explain it by energy conservation
  4. 04Analyze a conducting rod sliding on rails through a uniform field

In unit 12
